Don’t Be a Cactus: A Criticism of Critics [A Short]
Don’t be a cactus…in other words, don’t be prickly.
I read a very benign article on a beauty website yesterday where the 25-year old author expressed her affection for a health drink that she purchased herself, used, and loved. Then I made the mistake of reading the comments. There were not a lot, but almost half were negative.
They were not critical of the product itself, which would have been understandable disagreements. They were critical of the author. They were sarcastic comments along the lines of, “Really at 25 your skin looked good? Write another review when you’re 50...” They were personal attacks disguised as criticism of the article.
Those critics shouldn’t have even bothered to read the article because if you’re mean, nasty, and find your self-worth in putting other people down, there’s no beauty product in the world that will make you attractive.
