A DOSE of Coffee in Nashville.
Being based out of San Diego, California, I’ve become used to having easy access to good coffee. It’s a top ten coffee city according to smart asset (others here). When I visit certain cities, I realize I’m a bit spoiled: “What do you mean there aren’t multiple local coffee shops within a three miles radius in your city?!”
Nashville, Tennessee, however, is not one of those places. Nashville, like San Diego, has a solid number of local, coffee shops per square mile (according to me). On trips to visit my Nashville-based sister in, I’ve been exploring different ones. This past trip, I revisited one of my favorites for a killer latte: Headquarters. I also squeezed one new shop in: dose.
I swung by dose.’s West End location on a Monday morning to get my caffeine dose and a little work done before heading to the airport. It was the perfect spot for both.
I ordered a house coffee and an egg and cheddar biscuit. The coffee from Counter Culture Coffee Roasters was solid. It was served in a diner style mug with FREE REFILLS! Seriously, free. The biscuit, made in house, was a stand-out. Melted cheese and an egg are good anywhere but you just don’t get biscuits that good on the west coast.
The dose. vibe was very relaxed. Staff were friendly. Coffee shop patrons were a mix of studying students (Vanderbilt University is close by), workers grabbing a coffee for the road, remote workers like me, and pairs meeting up for work or social meetings. The layout works well for this diverse mix. A small bar with individual seats that lines the inside of the shop, ideal for studying or working. The middle has tables good for those who are chatting over a cup of joe. Then there are few tables outside for relaxing if the weather is nice.
Next time, I may check out the Riverside Village location which I learned offers craft beer and cocktails like Irish Coffee in addition to coffee and food offerings.
