A Quaint Remote Worker Friendly Coffee Shop in Manitou Springs, Colorado
I don’t know what my annual coffee expenditure is and frankly, I don’t want to. As a remote worker – running a small law firm with no office space – I spend a lot of time in coffee shops. To me, it’s a great use of money, you get coffee and hourly “office” or meeting space.
At home-base in Encinitas, California, I’ve got the local coffee shop scene mastered. I even have preferences on which coffee shops I like for different types of work. But when on the road, it can be a gamble. Not all coffee shops are made to work out of. In Vietnam, for example, I quickly discovered that many coffee shops were a place to sit, relax, and talk with friends or look out on the road.
In Manitou Springs, a quaint town just a hop-skip-and a jump from Colorado Springs, I got lucky and hit a great coffee spot to knock out a few hours of work on my first try: Red Dog Coffee. The shop is spacious with mixed seating – a bar area, traditional tables, and a lounge-like area with a couch – and ample food offerings. On the day, I was there, it even had free slat water taffy samples. I’m a sucker for things like that.
After grabbing coffee and a pastry, I settled at the bar area. I felt like I was in a movie as I sat there working on a contract and occasionally (ok, more than occasionally) taking breaks to look up and appreciate the snow floating down outside the window. I couldn’t resist sending a few giddy texts about my experience.
The shop’s central location served as a great jumping off point to explore the rest of the downtown area and although I personally didn’t have time to take advantage of it, it’s boozy offerings would make it a nice place to end the day as well.
Whether you’re a remote worker or just a coffee drinker, Red Dog Coffee is worth checking out:
